Background

Professor Saunders 29 years of experience as an educator and experience in the financial services sector.  Professor Saunders is a professor of Economics at the College of The Bahamas.  There she made significant contributions to various aspects of the institution’s development.  As Dean she held responsibility at different times for Business, Education, Hospitality Nursing and Technology. Professor Saunders was the Team Leader for the University Transition Secretariat which was tasked with the responsibility of designing the roadmap for the transition to University.

She is also a consultant in the area of social-economic development. She has made significant contributions to the national development discourse.  She is co-editor of the book The Bahamas in the 21st Century.  Her particular area of interest is in alternative economic systems that serve humanity.  Her newly published book Tomato Economics: shifting economies from scarcity to abundance presents one such alternative.

Professor Saunders has a strong history of national service having served on committees such as The Bahamas’ Constitutional Reform Commission, The Bahamas Sportfishing and Conservation Association, Civil Society Consulting Group of the Inter-American Development Bank Bahamas office, and The Bahamas Entrepreneurial Venture Capital Fund.
